My Piranha Plant, her baby and a few friends (Paranoid Carrot and Green Thumbs).

In creating the mother ( [link] ) , I based my design on this question: Had it been based on a real living plant, what would it look like?

For the baby, I followed the exact same steps except I applied softer textures, brighter colors and a teething mouth.

I used clay, a strengthened wire skeleton and a special mix of acrylics to get the right appearance of flesh (particularly the inside of the mouth).

If only.

I'd sell those instead and grow a whole bunch of them to surround my house. You know... to keep the plumbers away.

I have to say I adore these. Your perfection of the textures takes the detail to an almost disturbing realism, especially on the "skin" around Mama's jaw and her main leaf-joints (not pictured in any of these shots! Pity), not to mention Baby's mouth. It was fascinating to learn about the materials used, too; between the video you made and your flickr shots I'm thrilled these are so well-documented. Absolutely gorgeous - the highlight of your technical brilliance here is the understanding of the aging of tissue, and it makes for an incredibly eerie pixel-to-clay translation ^-^

One last note, on the side - the tragedy of your original Audrey II makes me wonder if you've heard about Sculpey Superflex...? It might be well-suited to your methods.
