Long ago, in a fast food joint in Puerto Rico, a lovely young woman I had recently met started singing a song apparently out of nowhere. The song was "O Pato" by João Gilberto which was playing from the restaurant's speakers (but not audible to me). Eventually, it sort of became our song.
Here is the music video I always told my friend I could imagine while listening to the song. It is not a literal representation, so if you do not understand portuguese (neither do I), it doesn't matter. It is a birthday present for someone who despite the everlasting distance & time has remained one of my dearest friends.
For those curious about the lyrics, here's a translation (special thanks to my friend Nina for the translation):
The duck came singing very happy, quack quack When the smily goose asked If she could enter the samba, the samba, the samba The goose (another type, it's a third character in the story) liked the couple and also said, quack, quack Looked at the swan and told him: "come, come" As the quartet would be well, very good, very well On the side of the lake, they went to practice To start the " tico tico no fuba" (it's just an expression that literally means to put the fingers in the cake, but is used primarily as a sexual activity, secondarily as the doing of something wrong. Also note that the expression "afundar o ganso" or to drown the goose means to have sex) The duck's voice was really awful The scene with the goose was a mess But I liked the end when they fell in the water While practicing their quack quack quack
And finally, here's a link to a Wikipedia profile on João Gilberto: [link] wiki/João_Gilberto
You know, this touched me really deep.
I don`t know if you`re from the people who like or dislike long posts, so sorry if you don`t like a lot of text under your pictures - this just... o.O took my heart.
First - the animation. It`s brilliant. In the words of a friend: "this 2d is so 3d!!!" xD But not in the cold way real 3d works are. :} This has the warmth of a child`s imagination. :} I really want to grab a copy of that book for children you wrote - I already`ve seen the illus, and now I`m sure the story`s good, too. ^__^
Second - the song. I loooove Joao Gilberto. (also Stan Getz, Astrud Gilberto, Bebel Gilberto... you get it. ;} ) And this song is a particular favourite of mine.
Third - the story. Or in other words - what happened to you. :} I love such little happenings. Life is a thread of little happenings with a big one here and there. ;}
Fourth - the lyrics. xD I never knew what they said! Thank you! And now it makes me laugh. I love laughing. Thank you again.
Fifth - my mood. thank you. I was in such a bad mood. You turned it around completely. Thank you.
THANK YOU!!!
And I`m sorry if this is long and boring to you... But I had to share. :}
Glad you liked it! O Pato is a personal fave of mine since it's connected to a very important part of my life.
And I sure don't mind long posts! I wish I could respond right away to all the comments I've gladly been getting lately but I'm definitely taking a moment to say to you it's cool and thanks for the kind words!
The book, it's never been published. I have to re-write it before I show anything of it. It's kind of sad for a kids book but it has a purpose in being that way.
Thanks for the faves!!

It's funny how you actually didn't know what the song says. You pictured something pretty different, but the animation is adorable

Sorry for the bad english...I actually take that away. At least my written English isn't bad.--
